GUEST SPEAKER TALKS: John Crotty is available to give educational and informative talks on the following subjects:

THE IRISH TRICOLOUR

For: Government and Local Authority – Elected Representatives – Primary, Secondary and Third level educators – Tourism Industry professionals – History and Heritage groups – Writers/literary societies.

Content: This online or in-person talk provides a fascinating and informative journey on the history of Ireland through its storied symbols, with a focus on the Irish Tricolour and Irish Harp. Drawing on new research exclusive to the author, attendees will leave with a nuanced understanding of the Irish tricolours conciliatory message, its ancient origins and the story of forgotten female patriot Emilia Hamilton and others who inspired it. Attendees can expect to gain:

  • An accurate understanding of the true origins of Ireland’s storied symbols, focusing on the Tricolour
  • A greater connection to Ireland’s rich history

SPIKE ISLAND

For – Ideal for general interest history and heritage groups. Groups of any age. Keen interest and tailoring available for military history groups, prison and prisoner history and Irish Republican interest.

Content: No other location in Ireland can better explain the Irish story than former Monastery, Fortress, Prison and Island Home that Spike Island. The island has played to ever facet of Ireland’s long history, from the sublime to the truly awful. This tailored talk covers areas intrinsic to the Irish journey, from Gaelic-era monasteries to Norman arrivals, Cromwellian prisons to the age of exploration and sail, the worlds largest prison during famine era times and the British and Irish Army during the French wars, World War 1 and World War Two. A modern, 1985-2004 prison and the story of its infamous riot closes out a deeply engaging journey.
